In some countries people are no longer allowed to smoke in many public places and office buildings. Do you think this is a good law or a bad law?

(Essay)

Smoking today has become a global problem; maybe every third person in the world smokes. I agree with the law- no smoking in public places. If smokers are not let to light a cigarette in public places they will soon understand to respect the others; think about their health. Stop smoking is also good for the smokers because they will improve their own health as well. If in the cafes smoking is not allowed, non-smokers would enjoy frequenting them because they will offer fresh air besides good music and cozy atmosphere.

Often smokers do not care about the people who do not smoke. Even if we do not smoke, we will become passive smokers and our health will be in danger. For example, some people are allergic to cigarettes. This may cause a person’s death. Consequently smokers should think about people around them and the law suggests that everybody do respect people around.

Another reason why this law is good is that smoking is bad for the smokers themselves. This law will make smokers smoke less; they will improve their own health. Finally, they can even give up smoking. It is important for a person to think about the others’ health, but also it is equally important for a person to save his own life and stop smoking is the first step to achieving it.

Last but not least, this law is good because cafes, restaurants and clubs without smokers inside will be great places for meetings. Not only will the cafes become more pleasant places, but they will also be healthier for their customers. So smoking should not be allowed in public places because they will preserve their cosy atmosphere.

A law of not smoking in public places is a great idea because people who do not smoke would not be afraid about their health; smokers will smoke less and cafes will be better places for all their customers.

  1. I agree that people shouldn't smoke in public, but I don't think it's a respect issue. I think they do it because they are just addicted, it's like biting your nails. Smoking becomes a bad habit that ruins your life slooowly. So yeah, by banning them to smoke in public it helps them out by improving their own health. Good essay. Oh, and I don't smoke lol

  2. I like the essay because it refers to an important issue. I totally agree with your point of view: Smoking is bad; it kills people and ruins their health. We are living in a modern society and this bad habit should be limited: as you said, in many countries you can smoke only at special places. It nice to know, that there are young people who are concerned and are actually sharing their opinion with the others.
The flaws of the essay are the words that you have used and the ideas. “I agree with the law- no smoking in public places. If smokers are not let to light a cigarette in public places they will soon understand to respect the others; think about their health. Stop smoking is also good for the smokers because they will improve their own health as well.“ When I read this sentence the words “smoking” and “smokers” are just too much and the first time I read it I taught only about these repetitions. You can refer to smoking as an “addiction” or “bad habit”. Also you are repeating your ideas throughout the whole essay: that it is dangerous for the smokers and the people around them, smokers will smoke less, and the cafes and restaurants will be more pleasant places. You could have given some personal examples or something that you have heard on the news. These are just some helpful advices.:)
As a whole I like your essay mainly because of the topic that you have chosen.
